Ginger - Superfood and yoga spice

HOW CAN GINGER SUPPORT MY YOGA PRACTICE?

ginger teaThere are plenty of reasons for introducing the “wonder spice” ginger to your life.  In ayuervedic medicine ginger is considered vital for healing. Ayurvedic practitioners have used ginger for centuries to activate the body's internal energy as well as to regain balance and harmony. Especially yogis may find the anti-inflammatory ginger most helpful to boost their immunity, and to relieve joint pain.

PACKED WITH MINERALS

Ginger contains many vital components like magnesium, zinc, and chromium. Those minerals are known to improve circulation - and an improved circulation equals more nutrients and oxygen for the body’s cells. This is exactly what is needed after an intense yoga session.

GINGER TEA - MAKE YOUR OWN BREW

One of the easiest ways to add the super-root to your diet is drinking ginger tea. It is simple to create your own brew: In a small saucepan bring water to a boil and add sliced ginger root. Cover with a lid and steep for 10 minutes. Strain the tea and add lemon and some honey. You could also add shredded ginger to your favorite green tea. Enjoy a cup of warm ginger tea right after your yoga practice.

HYDRATE YOUR SKIN WITH GINGER OIL

Ginger root is also useful in beauty applications. It is known to treat hypo-pigmentation (light-colored scars) by massaging a thin slice of ginger onto the affected area, and allowing the juice of the ginger to stay on the skin. It can also be infused with warm water and mustard seed for a detoxifying foot bath. However, if you are looking for a post yoga treatment that will hydrate your skin, add sliced ginger to one cup of warm grape-seed oil, and steep for a minimum of 20 minutes. The natural warming effect of ginger will help soothing tired muscles.

Ginger root is amazing, inexpensive, and is full of therapeutic and aesthetic uses. Don’t wait and start exploring what it has to offer!
